t has been brought to my attention that this blog has gone untouched for quite a while. I’ve been fairly active photographically but nothing interesting enough to really warrant any type of record. Mostly just pictures of dogs and snowscapes and a few processing experiments to mix things up. Nothing so exciting.
I think the winter is as good a time as ever to look back at what I have done and what I am proud of so over the next few weeks I will be going through the images in my portfolio and writing about them or what I remember about them anyway.

High-school football season has ended and while I am still finishing up a few projects related to that I have also been photographing my Alma mater, Alfred University, in their playoff run.
I am trying to create a business model that works in a virtual visual world where expectations drift towards the free flow of information. Download protection and watermarking only goes so far especially when you forget to use them and your images end up all over Facebook with no attribution.
Maybe I should be satisfied that people like my work enough to use it on a social network. Money is nice but it’s not the only motivator I have for the work I do; I take pictures so people will see them and share in the experience. That is whats happening.
Of course my other motivation is putting together a killer portfolio so people will pay me to make a photograph and if nothing else I am working towards that goal.
I also think that watermarks distract from the image and wish I didn’t have to use them but being able to pay back my student loans outweighs my internal artist at this point.
Shot my first game, proofed and uploaded within 24 hours and started receiving orders which I am hand proofing. Keeping busy and ahead of the work even with the holiday.
Something I noticed about High School football compared to College is the speed. In high school everything seems to be slower and more apparent at least to me. For example I am seeing the running back’s cut before he makes it I don’t know if it’s instincts from shooting football and playing or just having a superior vantage point but it helpful because I have noticed something else. It is so dark shooting at Friday night games Friday nights compared to Saturday afternoon games that I need every advantage to get usable shots.
I am also using higher ISO settings than I ever have thankfully Lightroom does a really good job with noise.
Still trying to work out my work flow to be as efficient as possible.
I have begun to shoot high-school football. Did a model shoot last week which I am still processing. Worked on a design for an album cover. Made several updates to my personal website, my print website and a friends website and now my blag. Took apart a Fuji Film instax 210 to mount the developing mechanism in a medium format camera (still looking for a suitable and affordable option).
I’ve been doing all this while working my day job and that is why I love coffee.
Updated my main website at AdamBrockwayPhoto.com the biggest difference is that I finally added an about page. I am also working on redoing and printing my portfolio I need to find a classy way to present the proofs after I print them later today so I can apply for a job, One of the trickiest parts was cropping everything 8×10 as many of them were more comfortable in the native 4×6 that my camera captures.
I have also posted the images from the Alfred University job on my smug mug print website. http://abrockway.smugmug.com/
Back from the Alfred University exhibition in New York City, where I worked for a week then spent another week traveling around long island and the city staying with friends and taking photos that I haven’t processed yet. My next post will be of those photos I am sure. I’ve also been working on updating my portfolio more on that later as well. Of course I can’t end this post with out some kind of picture from the city I’ve been experimenting with black and white, mono and duo-tone. Hopefully its not too tacky for the one person who reads this and isn’t me.
So I finished college, did the whole senior show thing and got myself a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree. I don’t really have a plan more of a direction which I suppose is better then some. I know I want to do freelance photography and I’m working out just how to go about doing that. I’m getting organized. I’ve got the website, I’m working on the studio and I’m working on the portfolios. Eventually I start looking for work more adamantly.
